About these numbers
Figures on this page count active association registrations on the DPOR Common Interest Community Board's regulant list (license type 0550), which DPOR publishes for public use and refreshes on a rolling basis. Registration is mandatory under Va. Code 54.1-2349, with roughly 8,500–9,000 associations estimated statewide, so the registered count is a high-coverage floor.
The registry records mailing addresses only — often a management company's office — so HOA Census does not build Virginia county pages from it. County-level assignment will come from cross-referencing corporate and land records in a future release.
